In recent years, superannuation funds have placed greater emphasis on the diversification of investments to offshore assets, resulting in a higher exposure to foreign currency in their portfolios. In fact, the National Australian Bank 2021 Superannuation FX Hedging Survey1 showed record breaking investment allocation to foreign assets by Australian pension funds. With this comes the potential for increased exposure to FX settlement risk. In parallel policymakers and FX market participants have become increasingly concerned about settlement risk, particularly in emerging market currencies, and are calling for greater adoption of PvP settlement in the FX market to mitigate this risk.
Lisa and Natsumi will discuss how superannuation funds can better manage the risks associated with FX trading while benefitting from operational and liquidity efficiencies.

Lisa joined CLS in 2018 and is Chief Growth Officer, overseeing a team in Hong Kong, London, New York and Tokyo. Based in London, she is responsible for growing CLS’s client base globally, as well as the adoption of CLS’s broader portfolio of products focusing on three business lines – settlement, processing, and data.
Prior to joining CLS, Lisa led the EMEA sales for Broadway Technology – an FX and financial institutions FinTech provider. She has over 25 years of experience in financial services and has built and led successful sales teams across several leading financial organizations including HSBC, BNPParibas and Bank of America. In addition to her sales roles, Lisa has experience in a number of other areas including FX operations, FX trading (FX options), FX options structuring and custody, and the FinTech space (Broadway Technology and FXall).
Natsumi Matsuba

Natsumi Matsuba is a senior currency trader and Head of FX Trading for Russell Investments Implementation Services, LLC a part of Russell Investments
Natsumi is responsible for trade execution for Russell Investments’ currency management business, which services the foreign exchange needs of external clients and all of Russell Investments’ internal businesses, including investment management and research, overlay services, and transition management. The currency management group is tasked with building and developing a business whose primary role is to optimize relative execution outcomes while minimizing operational risk.
Natsumi joined Russell Investments in 2016. Prior to that, Natsumi worked at Morgan Stanley from 2006 to 2016. Natsumi joined Morgan Stanley initially as an intern in 2005 while studying at UC Berkeley, and was a full-time equity sales trader at Morgan Stanley in Tokyo from 2006 to 2016.
