A Top Global Manager of Outsourced Assets

For the 13th year in a row, Russell Investments was ranked as a top global manager of institutional outsourced assets in CIO Magazine’s “Outsourced-Chief Investments Officer (OCIO) Survey,” based on the AUM from its fully discretionary clients (as of December 31, 2023). Notably, in CIO’s “2024 OCIO Survey,” which included 26 firms, Russell Investments placed first among the global managers in Healthcare and in the top 10 for Defined Benefit and 401(k), 403(b) or other DC outsourced assets.

For the 14th year in a row, Russell Investments was globally ranked among leading institutional OCIO managers based on outsourced assets under management from 55 firms (as of March 31, 2024) in the 2024 Pensions & Investments’ annual survey of OCIO managers.

MMI/Barron's Industry Award Winner: Asset Manager of the Year

Russell Investments has been named Asset Manager of the Year (AUM of $25–100B) by the Money Management Institute (MMI)/Barron's for "How do you want your Russell Investments" a firm-wide sales and service approach helping advisors achieve their goals. The firm has been adapting their investment and business solutions to cater to advisors" evolving needs, addressing the rapid adoption of new technologies and increased demand for customized investments.1

2022

Fiduciary Management of the Year

Russell Investments was named the "Fiduciary Management of the Year" winner at the 2022 European Pensions Awards. Chosen among seven finalists in this category, Pensions Age and European Pensions cited, "With reference to impressive case studies, this firm demonstrated how it has boosted client funding levels, won new mandates, heightened its ESG focus, and launched new reporting and online tools."2

For the 16th year in a row, Russell Investments was globally ranked as one of the top 12 largest consultants. The ranking is based on worldwide institutional assets under advisement (AUA) from 58 firms (as of June 30, 2024) in the 2024 Pensions & Investments “Special Report: Investment Consultants.”

Factor Investing Offering of the Year

Russell Investments was named the “Factor Investing Offering of the Year” winner at the 2024 Pensions Age Awards. The judges praised Russell Investments’ deep comprehension of the significance of factor investing in the pension sector and their dedication to meeting client needs, thus establishing a high standard for the industry. 3

Russell Investments was named the "Factor Investing Offering of the Year" winner at the 2024 European Pensions Awards. The judges praised Russell Investments for its passion and expertise in the factor investing space, as well as its performance and innovation.4

2023

Perfect Scores: Outperformer in Multiple Categories

Russell Investments was ranked first in multiple categories in The TRADE’s inaugural “Outsourced Trading Survey” published November 2023 (out of 14 providers), receiving four perfect scores in: Client service and relationship management; Onboarding; Business model and other factors; and Cost versus value for money. The survey reported, “Overall, the firm outscores the survey average by 62bps.” A client comment referred to Russell Investments as “the best team and partner” and “always looking after us and steering us when markets turn.” 5

For 20 consecutive years, Russell Investments has maintained its position among the leading U.S. institutional managers of overlay assets from 24 firms (as of December 31, 2023) in the 2024 Pensions & Investments' "Special Report: Money Managers."

A Leading Factor-Based Strategies Manager

In 2023, Russell Investments was globally ranked as one of the top 10 largest managers of factor-based strategies. This ranking is based on worldwide assets under management (AUM) from 58 firms (as of December 31, 2022) in the 2023 Pensions & Investments’ (P&I) "Special Report: Money Managers."

In 2024, P&I eliminated this question from their survey.

Russell Investments was named the "Currency Manager the Year" winner at Pensions Expert's 2022 Pension and Investment Provider Awards for performance, innovation, and service standards.6
