Fran Lopez de Saa
Director, Sustainable Investing and Active Ownership
Fran is responsible for leading the firm’s active ownership strategy, sustainability-related considerations into investment processes, and driving stewardship efforts across global portfolios. In this role, he collaborates closely with portfolio managers, research analysts, and investment teams to identify material risks, promote corporate engagement, and ensure effective proxy voting and responsible investment practices.
Fran started his career in 2014 at Minerva, Europe’s leading independent proxy voting and governance research firm. Rising to Research Manager, he later became an external specialist advisor, assessing asset managers' policies and voting strategies worldwide. In 2020, he rejoined Minerva as Stewardship Director, expanding its engagement and governance efforts.
In 2021, he joined Russell Investments to spearhead active ownership, refining engagement strategies, strengthening voting policies, and enhancing sustainability transparency. A recognised thought leader, he has authored key papers on corporate engagement, executive pay, stewardship, and divestment.
