Elliot Cohen is associate general counsel for Russell Investments. Elliot provide strategic, product development, business prospecting and general legal counsel to all of Russell’s U.S. corporate and investment management business units balancing commercial considerations and risk management. His legal practice focuses on the structuring, negotiation and documentation of strategic alliances, mergers and acquisitions, vendor contracts, investment management agreements, private investment funds, real estate leases, long term incentive plans and other employee benefit plans and other contracts. Elliot facilitates the creation, monetization, management and protection of Russell Investments’ intellectual property.
Elliot empowers and coaches the Americas Institutional and corporate legal team effecting deep client rapport by focusing on personal relationships. He also represents Russell Investments to regulators such as the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, U.S. Commodities Futures Trading Commission, the Washington Department of Financial Institutions and other regulators as required.
Elliot’s past legal practice at Russell Investments included the representation of Russell Investments in investment advisory and investment company matters under the Investment Advisers Act and Investment Company Acts of 1940, as amended. He has also advised Russell Investments on matters relating to the regulation of brokers and dealers under the Securities Act of 1934, as amended, as well as various corporate law matters.
Prior to Russell, Elliot was counsel to two firms, most recently for the Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company where he worked for five years. Before this, he was counsel to Preti, Flaherty, Beliveau & Pachios, for two years.
Elliot has significant business and financial expertise gained from his eight years of business and CPA experience prior to matriculating to law school in 1994.
