The global pandemic forced society to change. At our 2021 EMEA summit we shone a light on the impact that the pandemic was having on human behaviour, society, and the future of improving financial security for people across the globe.
One-year on, we revisit these topics and discuss how society has readjusted and what has now become ‘the new normal’.

In this session, we will take a look at the latest insights on inflation as well as world market and economic forecasts. We will then host a panel discussion to look at how the current and future economic outlook will impact private markets and where the opportunities may arise.

Paul Wharton is Director and Head of Relationship Management for Russell Investments. In this role, he has responsibility for the entire UK client book, while also managing a small number of accounts. Paul has over 20 years of experience in the field of pension scheme investments, having worked in advisory, asset management and fiduciary management roles throughout his career.

Global Head of Investment Strategy, Russell Investments
Andrew Pease is the Global Head of Investment Strategy for Russell Investments. He is responsible for the cycle, value and sentiment framework that guides the tactical positioning of Russell Investments’ actively managed funds. Andrew oversees Russell Investments’ global team of investment strategists in Seattle, London and Sydney. He is based in London and joined the firm in 2006.

Former Secretary of State for Work and Pensions
Before serving as only the fifth woman to hold one of Britain’s Great Offices of State, Amber represented the UK at the Paris climate change conference as Energy and Climate Change Secretary. As Home Secretary she led calls for tech companies to take greater responsibility for the spread of radicalising content online. After also serving as Work and Pensions Secretary and Women and Equalities Minister, Amber left the Government amid the bitter arguments over the pursuing of a no-deal Brexit policy.

Jihan is the Head of Responsible Investing and chairs Russell Investments’ Global Responsible Investing Steering Group. She has 20 years of industry experience and helps clients achieve their ESG goals, whilst also integrating Russell Investments’ approach to ESG across the investment process, and also at a firm-wide level to help ensure our corporate governance and sustainability efforts are reflected in our business strategy.
Global Chief Investment Officer, Russell Investments
Kate El-Hillow serves as Global Chief Investment Officer for Russell Investments. Based in New York, Kate leads Russell Investments’ global investment team with responsibility for all aspects of the Investment Division including asset management, implementation and research. She also serves on the firm’s executive committee. Kate has more than 25 years of proven success in investment management roles. This includes deep expertise in outsourced CIO investment solutions and multi-asset portfolio management.
Deputy Head Clwyd Pension Fund at Flintshire County Council Deeside
Debbie is the Deputy Head of the Clwyd Pension Fund, a £2.4bn Local Government Pension Scheme and a member of the Wales Pension Partnership (WPP).
She represents The Clwyd Fund on both Private Markets and Responsible Investment working groups within the WPP and represents the WPP on the Responsible Investment Cross Pool Group and also the Scheme Advisory Board Responsible Investment Advisory Group.
The Clwyd Fund has investments with many Private Market managers and Debbie is a member on several of those investments Advisory Boards.
Debbie has also recently been appointed as a Non-Executive Director for Pensions For Purpose.
In her spare time, Debbie enjoys taking her dogs and grandchildren away camping and caravanning.
Head of Alternative Investments, Russell Investments
Vic Leverett is the Head of Alternative Investments for Russell Investments. Vic manages Russell Investments hedge fund and private market teams to ensure the investment integrity of research and portfolio solutions. In addition, he oversees and coordinates the product strategy of alternative investments globally. Vic is a member of Investment Division Leadership team and Investment Strategy Committee.
Head of Strategic Client Solutions, Russell Investments
David Rae is Head of Strategic Client Solutions with Russell Investments. Based in London, he leads the team responsible for developing investors’ portfolio strategies in light of their specific circumstances. David works with pension fund, insurance, and other clients across EMEA to build portfolio solutions to manage risks, including liability hedging, and generate the required level of returns.
Andrew (Drew) Schardt
Head of Global Investment Strategy, Co-Head of Direct Credit, Hamilton Lane
Drew is the Head of Global Investment Strategy at Hamilton Lane and serves as the firm’s Co-Head of Direct Credit. As Head of Investment Strategy, Drew is responsible for shaping strategic portfolio decisions across Hamilton Lane’s various investment strategies and product areas. In his capacity as Co-Head of Direct Credit, Drew helps oversee credit-related investment activities and co-manages the Direct Credit team. Drew is a member of the Investment Committee as well as the firm’s Executive Committee. Prior to joining Hamilton Lane in 2008, Drew focused on principal investing and advisory activities while at TCG Advisors, an Aerospace & Defense-focused merchant bank. Previously, Drew held positions with Holberg, Inc., a diversified private holding company, and he began his career in investment banking at Banc of America Securities.
Drew received an M.B.A from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business and a bachelor’s degree in Economics from Cornell University.
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Russell Investments
Michelle is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Russell Investments. She is passionate about solving clients’ needs and about purpose-driven leadership. With more than 30 years of experience in asset management, Michelle previously spent 22 years with William Blair, 16 of which were on the firm’s executive committee and as head of William Blair Investment Management (WBIM), which had more than $70 billion in AUM under her leadership. Prior to leading WBIM, Michelle led the firm’s private wealth management business. Her previous experience also includes senior portfolio management roles with WBIM, Concord Investment Company and NationsBank.
Senior Quantitative Research Analyst, Russell Investments
Emily Steinbarth is a senior quantitative research analyst at Russell Investments focusing on the research and development of the firm’s in house equity strategies. In this role, Emily is involved in the continual development of global quantitative equity portfolios with a focus on ESG and decarbonisation strategies.
Senior Research Analyst, Russell Investments
Michael Steingold is a Senior Research Analyst in Private Markets for Russell Investments. Based in London, Michael researches private markets investments managers in the Asia-Pacific region and manages client portfolios of real estate, infrastructure and private debt investments globally.
