John Forrest is head of Russell Investments’ manager research practice, leading the proprietary research effort of our manager research analysts. He ensures that Russell Investments’ manager research practice continues to be the industry standard for identifying and recommending the very best managers globally. His role includes defining and refining our manager research process, training analysts in the art and science of manager research, developing and improving analytical tools and a variety of other activities that support and evaluate Russell Investments’ manager research practice. He is a member of our Investment Process and Risk team headed by the Managing Director, Investments.

As part of his 14-year tenure at Russell Investments, John has spent more than a decade researching, evaluating and recommending professional money managers for our Funds and clients in a diverse range of asset classes and in multiple geographic regions spanning equity, fixed income, currency and property. John has also managed consulting client relationships and participated in specialist projects for selected clients in his area of expertise.

Prior to joining Russell Investments, John was a senior analyst managing the BHP Superannuation Fund, a major Australian pension fund. In this role, he was responsible for researching, recommending and implementing the investment processes and asset class structure for this large multi-manager fund. John also performed reviews of investment managers, implemented manager transitions and managed several internal portfolios.

As with many of Russell Investments’ manager research analysts, John spent the early part of his career gaining practical experience working as a securities analyst and portfolio manager for a professional money manager, specializing in equities, derivatives and property securities. John has presented lectures to a variety of securities industry forums on topics including the investment process, the art of manager research, applied portfolio management and performance measurement.
